the pleistocene precedent

nature
oftentimes
appalls
with
its
economy
of
scale
downsizing
entire
species
seemingly
on
a
callous
whim
for
what
at
first
glance
suggests
beauty
in fact
masks
a
process
of
ruthless
selection
grow/prosper
or
perish
is
the
rule
of
natural
law
negating
all
chance
of
reprieve
or
appeal
to
a
higher
court
and
thereby
belying
all
belief
in
mother
gaia’s
munificence
which
is
at
best
a
fairy
tale
or
a
misleading
myth
clung
to
by
humankind
like
a
security
blanket
riddled
with
loopholes.
