Cells capture sweet memories
Of static moments
Too fleeting to be digested
At the time of composure
A stolen glimpse of carefree
Indolence with friends
Or family gatherings
Around age celebrations or
Announcements of magnitude
Some milestone achieved
And happy, smiling faces
Making a show of bravery
Come what may
Secure in the knowledge that
Tomorrow never, ever will be
A mere facsimile of today.

I agree with you both: I think with words, you can capture beyond just the exact moment; you can capture whatever it is you want to impose upon that moment. This beautiful poem summons up purely unique images that can’t be described by anything else besides the words written on the page. The beauty of photographs is that they are Carpe Diem! Our eyes are the lenses we need to learn to use more skillfully and truly observe and see what they world around us as to offer us on a dialy basis. Enjoyed your poem.

There’s definitely something to be said, for spending an afternoon poring over old photo albums. But I must confess, though, that the photos I was looking at, while I wrote this poem, were a haphazard collection of photos stuck all over the fridge door! Thanks, for commenting and stopping by!

In pictures, the past does seem perfect. The zeal of the humans to capture time and freeze it in a couple of inches is ever growing and insatiable.

This puzzled me. Don’t photographs capture memories of dynamic moments? I mean, the memories are static, because they’re in photo form. But the actual moment that the photo is capturing is dynamic, no?
It’s only the photograph afterward that is static. Or maybe I’m reading it wrong.
Either way, nice poem. I hardly pay attention to poems on WordPress, but this one is actually decent.

First of all, let me say thank you, for your question and supportive comments, more widely. It’s great to know my poem has provoked a bit of debate.
There are seemingly a number of unresolved contradictions, within the poem, I agree. Frustratingly, though, in order to explore/explain them will take many more words than are contained in the poem itself. Hence, I suppose, that’s why I like to express ideas with poetry to begin with.
Ultimately, the poem deals with the illusory quality of both time and perfection, both being abstract concepts, after all, that we purport to observe in the course of our daily physical existence.
In order for me to give a more detailed answer, though, we’re going to have to enter the metaphysical realm and discuss the philosophical nature of time. If, for instance, you were to infinitely dilate time, I believe, our lives would look like a, seemingly, infinite number of static moments strung together. And so, within that split micro-second that a camera does its thing, we are seeing one such moment of virtual stasis.
On a more mundane level the moment a photograph is taken can also be called “static”, because everyone in the photo is told to “freeze and hold that pose”.
